Project Aims

The aim of the project is to devise land use practices which promote sustainable development within rural communities in a way that raises the living standards, and to assess the potential of these activities to generate verifiable carbon emission reductions as a means of raising an income stream. The target group in this pilot study is the N'hambita community in Sofala province. There are three main components:

  • the promotion of sustainable land use in N'hambita (forest management, agroforestry and non-timber forest products);
  • research into the regional potential for carbon offsets generated through these activities and
  • capacity building of regional organisations to enable the verification of carbon offsets.
